The Tilt-and-Turn Advantage: How It Works
European tilt-and-turn windows are the standard across Europe and are rapidly revolutionizing the American housing market. They offer a level of versatility that traditional sliding or double-hung windows simply cannot match. The magic lies in the simple turning of a single handle, which operates the window in three distinct positions.
When the handle points downward, the window is securely closed. At least five steel locking pins slide into metal rails on the frame, pulling the window tightly shut. This mechanism ensures maximum performance of the seals, meaning leaks almost never occur.
When the handle is turned 90 degrees to the horizontal position, the window functions like a normal door. The locking pins unlock, and the window sash swings completely open inward on side hinges.
